Marble

Marble is a natural metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite. Marble is a classic stone that gives any room a luxurious look. It is suitable for both traditional and contemporary looks. Due to marbles porous properties it tends to stain, scratch, and etch. Therefore, we always recommend using our Bullet Proof sealer to prevent issues. If you choose not to seal it, we recommend using caution when handling oils, vinegars, citrus juices, and soaps around your marble countertops as they can cause damage to the tops. Marble can vary vastly in price from affordable to simply luxurious!

Quartzite

Quartzite is a very hard stone that comes from the metamorphosis of sandstone. This metamorphosis of sand tends to offer these stones more exotic looks. It is also incredibly durable and highly recommended to use for kitchens or bathrooms. It is not easily scratched or etched. It is also resistant to common kitchen acids such as vinegars and citrus juices. We do recommend sealing quartzite though to give it an added layer of protection. Quartzite tends to start in the mid-range prices and proceeds into the luxury level of stone.

Granite

Granite is a coarse-grained igneous rock that is extremely hard and durable. It requires very little maintenance. Granite tends to be a popular choice for outdoor projects and grill area. It is also commonly used as a fireplace surround and hearth as the stone can withstand the enormous heat outputs caused by the fireplace. Granite can accommodate any price range.

Quartz

Quartz is a manmade material and is one of the hardest materials around. Because of its strength it requires very little maintenance and is extremely reliable. Quartz comes in a vast variety but is often used to create looks similar to a marble look, but without the price of a luxury marble. Quartz ranges in prices from affordable and proceeds into the luxury level of stone.

Porcelain

Porcelain is the newest material on the countertop scene. Most people recognize porcelain as tile in their home, but due to modern advances, porcelain has now become a staple in the countertop industry. Porcelain is essentially made from clay often called China clay. After this clay is put into a kiln it comes out fully transformed into a material that is impervious to stains, heat, UV rays, scratching, chips, and cracks. This is the lowest maintenance material available. A few things to be aware of with porcelain is that manufacturers take pictures of some of the finest marbles in the world and superimpose them onto the porcelain. Because of this process the image only exists on the top of the surface which normally requires mitering edges for the “image” to be seen. Please do not cut on these surfaces with a ceramic knife as that can damage the tops. From rustic steel to luxury marble the look of these countertops is endless. The price tends to stick in the mid-range but can move into the luxury category based on how complex the fabrication process is.

Soapstone

Soapstone is an incredibly rich and living stone. Soapstone has been a favorite source of materials over the years for sculptors due to its softness and distinct character. The maintenance required is therefore like that of a marble. It is one of the most heat-resistant stones available, which makes it a favorite for fireplaces and kitchens. Your hot pans are not going to damage this material. The main thing to be aware of is this material will chip and etch after years of common use, but we think it adds character and memories to your countertops! Soapstone darkens over time and loves to be oiled with mineral oil. Prices range from affordable and proceeds into the mid-range prices.

Onyx

Onyx is an incredibly unique and rare stone. It is an extremely exotic looking stone and is a favorite of our designers and homeowners looking to make a statement. The stone is translucent which allows it to be backlit, which adds to the unique patterns already found in the stone. Be aware that this stone will scratch easily and is best used for backsplashes or bathrooms. It will also react to acids since it is a calcium-based stone. Sealing is highly recommended. Due to the rarity of this stone, it is considered in the luxury stone category.
